Esther S White is our newest member. She is a front-end developer and designer; passionate about web standards and usability, findability, and the integration of structure, presentation, and behavior to create accessible, intuitive, and beautiful websites. She is also a visual artist, with a degree in Studio Art and Computer Science from Barnard College, and a member of Zea Mays Printmaking Studio in Florence, MA.

Esther will help us expand our service offerings. We are very excited about the direction Ronin will be taking in the months ahead. Stay tuned!

It is with much anticipated enthusiasm that we can announce that Benjamin Bradley is joining Ronin! He has been working with computers since before it was cool. He enjoys working with Ruby on Rails, Perl, PHP, MySQL, and has experience with many others as well. Benjamin graduated from the Computer Science program at the University of Texas at Austin. He also works with GAIA Host Collective, a worker-owned web hosting company dedicated to social and environmental sustainability (http://www.gaiahost.coop).

Benjamin will continue to work from Austin, Texas, officially introducing the virtual office concept to Ronin. He has been actively working with MI, the open source content management system that has its roots with Brattleboro Tech Collective. He plans on supporting MI for Ronin’s clients that use it.

Be a Worker-Owner with Ronin!

Ronin is looking for worker-owners to join as web programmers/engineers at our office in beautiful downtown Brattleboro Vermont. Worker-owners contribute their skills to the daily work, while actively participating in the democratic management and operation of the company. This means we need people with good collaboration skills, a willingness to engage in non-technical tasks, as well as strong technical skills.

Those suited for this position will be enthusiastic about the worker-cooperative model for business. We operate entirely on the basis of consensus, with all worker-owners having equal input into decisions, and all expected to contribute actively and creatively to the evolution of the company. An ideal candidate would have the following attributes:

be passionate about working in a democratic environment
have built and maintained complex web applications
be comfortable communicating directly with clients
be willing to engage with other worker-owners on an honest and personal level

Technical skills required:

Ruby on Rails and Perl (or relevant experience that makes learning them easy)
Knowledge of Agile Development process
Linux/Ubuntu
At least basic knowledge of HTML/CSS
Willingness to learn new technologies

Ronin is a new company, and you’ll be joining at the ground floor!
